Open access to cutting-edge electron and light microscopy
We provide researchers from Europe and beyond with a synergistic portfolio of imaging services including cryo-EM, super-resolution and intravital microscopy to enable new ground-breaking research that crosses the scales of biology.
We offer a powerful and synergistic portfolio of imaging technologies both individually and in a combined (correlative) fashion, to enable new ground-breaking research that crosses the scales of biology.
We support you from sample preparation to image analysis.
Our light microscopy (LM) technologies cover all scales — from the latest super-resolution and cryo-super-resolution methods to high-speed, high-resolution live-cell, intravital, and deep tissue imaging — with a focus on non-commercial, academically developed technologies.
Our electron microscopy (EM) technologies and services cover all scales — from single-particle cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-tomography to (cryo-)CLEM and cellular or tissue volume electron microscopy.
Our ultimate goal is to offer as many individual microscopy technologies in a correlative manner and as integrated service as possible. A major part of our research is focussing on workflow developments towards that ambitious goal.
At the moment we are able to offer direct correlation between confocal fluorescence imaging and cellular cryo-tomography, all under continuous cryo conditions.
Please contact us with any question you might have. We are looking forward to getting to know you and your questions.

We are working in close collaboration with EMBL’s core facilities and services across sites.
If the Imaging Centre does not have the matching services for your project, we will support your needs jointly with our colleagues from the other facilities.
Contact us anyways, our user management will guide you.
The IC is actively involved in research related to cryo-light microscopy. We are in particular supporting the development of cryo-super-resolution imaging and related workflows.
