EMBO | EMBL Symposium
This conference will take place at EMBL Heidelberg, with the option to attend virtually.
Registration is not yet open for this event. If you are interested in receiving more information please register your interest.
This symposium will cover a broad range of topics in microbiology, featuring diverse research on bacterial physiology, bacterial communities and microbiomes, bacterial–host and –phage interactions, and bacteria in their natural ecological contexts. Emphasis will be placed on novel approaches and technologies (from systems-based to single-cell) that drive each field or have the potential to revolutionise future research in microbiology.
The meeting is the seventh of its kind, part of a successful series which started in 2013 and held biannually since, becoming a must-attend event for scientists working with bacteria and new technologies. It aims at bridging the gap between traditional microbiology and novel technologies, by exposing microbiologists to new ways of addressing their hypotheses. At the same time, it provides a platform for systems or technology experts to get a better understanding of the important questions in the field.
Session topics
“The conference tackled all the important topics in current microbiology, with an adequate length and a good variety of presenters. The networking sessions were good as they can be online (without food and drinks) and the discussion panels may have been the highlight for me!”
– Julia Sanchez-Garrido, Imperial College London, UK

EMBO | EMBL Symposia promote scientific communication and collaboration in the European research area. They provide scientists with a platform to discuss and exchange ideas on forward-looking topics and new developments in the life sciences.
Topics emphasise upcoming developments and the interdisciplinary nature of related fields. Jointly funded and organised by EMBO and EMBL – and complementary to their respective courses, workshops, and conference programmes – the symposia promote scientific communication and collaboration.
All symposia are held in the EMBL Advanced Training Centre (ATC) in Heidelberg, Germany, or virtually.
