New ALMF confocal: Leica Stellaris 8 with far-red detection and TauSense – Advanced Light Microscopy Facility

Advanced Light Microscopy Facility

This facility offers a collection of state-of-the-art light microscopy equipment and image processing tools.

New ALMF confocal: Leica Stellaris 8 with far-red detection and TauSense

The new Leica Stellaris 8 confocal microscope is equipped with the newest generation of Hybrid Detectors (HyD S) enabling detection up to 850nm and therefore the use of far-red dyes like Cy7 or Alexa750. The high-power white light laser with up to eight lines freely tunable from 440 to 790 nm enables imaging of unusual dye combinations and facilitates working with far-red dyes in contrast to our conventional laser scanning microscopes.

Furthermore, the system is equipped with Leica’s TauSense-modes which take advantage of fluorescence lifetime-based information e.g. for multiplexing or suppression of autofluorescence. For more information about tau-modes, please also have a look at the interview of Timo Zimmermann.

For more information, training on the system or any other request, please contact the ALMF directly (almf@embl.de).
