🔍 Course highlights

This course will provide theoretical foundations and practical training in:

  • Sample vitrification: Plunge- and high-pressure freezing techniques
  • Cryo-FIB milling: On-grid lamella preparation using state-of-the-art instruments
  • Cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET): Data acquisition and high-resolution imaging
  • Computational analysis: Tomogram reconstruction, segmentation, and sub-tomogram averaging

An open equipment day will offer further exploration opportunities with expert guidance.

🎓 Lectures from leading scientists

Featuring invited talks by:

  • Dr. Petr Chlanda – Cryo-CLEM studies on Ebola virus
  • Dr. Bettina Zens – Cryo-lift-out and ECM analysis

And lectures by EMBL IC experts on sample prep, cryo-FIB milling, tomography tools, 3D modeling, and molecular-level analyses.

🛠️ Hands-On Practicals

You will gain hands-on experience with world-class instruments:

  • GP2 & EM ICE (Leica Microsystems) – Sample vitrification
