Patrick Cramer elected as next President of the Max Planck Society

Former chair of EMBL Council to take office as the next President of the Max Planck Society in June 2023.

EMBL warmly congratulates Patrick Cramer, EMBL SAC Member and previous chair of EMBL Council, on his election as the next President of the Max Planck Society. He takes office in June 2023. 

Cramer completed his PhD at EMBL Grenoble in the laboratory of Christoph Müller, now Head of EMBL’s Structural and Computational Biology Unit. Cramer chaired EMBL’s Council from 2016 to 2019, after three years as Vice-Chair.

EMBL Director General Edith Heard said: “I am absolutely delighted. This is a tremendous honour for Patrick, and all of us at EMBL congratulate him. His scientific contributions in the fields of transcription and chromatin have been absolutely exceptional and his vision and leadership stand out. We look forward to our continued strong collaborations with the Max Planck Society under his presidency.”
