Scientific Instrumentation Workshops

EMBL’s in-house instrumentation development group providing design, fabrication and support services

The Scientific Instrumentation Workshops provide comprehensive support for the development and maintenance of scientific instruments.

Edit

Our engineering teams are always ready to help EMBL researchers and collaborators, whether advising regarding instrumentation needs, repairing and maintaining hardware, coming up with quick solutions to improve existing hardware or workflows, or devising completely new advanced instruments to overcome experimental challenges.

Our services leverage years of experience developing custom solutions researchers across a range of needs, including: sample preparation and handling; in-situ measurement and actuation; light microscopy; electron microscopy; cryogenic systems; in-vivo experimental platforms; fluidic handling systems; automation and control; data acquisition solutions; system integration; and more!

Our workshops are happy to take your scientific goals and requirements, and work with you to develop a custom hardware solution that enables your experiments.

Standard Instruments and External Partners

Alongside instrument development, we also offer a range of standard instruments that were originally developed for internal use, and have since found widespread adoption in research labs both within and beyond EMBL. These instruments can be ordered from the workshops, and, if necessary, adapted to your specific project’s needs.

We are happy to support not only EMBL researchers, but also the biology community more broadly. If you are an external research group or company interested in our services or products, please get in touch!
