Metabolism-driven immunity
Currently there are opportunities to join our research group as a research technician, postdoctoral researcher, PhD student, or Master student.
We are looking for highly motivated researchers to join the Osterman Group at EMBL Hamburg / CSSB. Our group studies how metabolism shapes immunity, focusing on bacterial defense systems and phage counter-defense strategies. We combine biochemistry, microbiology, computational analysis, and structural biology to uncover new enzymes, metabolites, and metabolic pathways in phage–bacteria interactions.
We are currently looking for:
Bioinformatician (PhD or Master level)
We are seeking a computational biologist with experience in sequence analysis, comparative genomics, or functional annotation. The project focuses on large-scale mining of phage genomes to identify novel enzymes and metabolic systems. Experience with protein function prediction or structural modeling is an advantage.
Experimental researcher (Biochemistry / Structural Biology / Microbiology)
We are looking for a wet-lab scientist with experience in protein biochemistry, microbiology, or structural biology. The work includes protein expression and purification, enzymatic assays, and structural studies using X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM.
PhD applicants: please apply through the EMBL International PhD Programme.
