Mesoscopic Imaging Facility

Transforming biology and biomedicine with mesoscopic imaging

Technologies & Equipment

Light Sheet Microscopy

Light Sheet Microscopy

Custom OPTiSPIM 1: Combined Optical Projection Tomography and light sheet microscope

Offers Optical Projection Tomography (OPT) and Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM) in a single system. This setup enables 3D imaging of large, cleared samples (via OPT) alongside live or fluorescently labeled fixed sample imaging with optical sectioning (via SPIM). It’s ideal for capturing anatomical context and cellular detail across whole embryos, organoids, and tissues.

Optical Projection Tomography

Optical Projection Tomography

Custom OPT – Optical Projection Tomography system

Offers 3D imaging of large, cleared biological samples. Ideal for whole organs, embryos, and tissue specimens, OPT captures volumetric data by rotating the sample and reconstructing high-resolution images similar to a CT scan, but using visible light.

Quantitative Phase Imaging

Quantitative Phase Imaging

Nanolive 3D Cell Explorer: Holotomographic label-free imaging system

Offers label-free 3D characterization of living cells in physiological conditions. A unique combination of holography and rotational scanning enables high resolution imaging of cells and their organelles. This holotomographic imaging technology works label-free and reports the 3D refractive index distribution of cell momolayers.

Fluorescence microscopy

Fluorescence microscopy

ZEISS SteREO Discovery.V20: Stereo microscope with fluorescence imaging

Offers the flexibility of the 20:1 zoom range to go from the widest overview to the smallest details. Excellent for checking labelling in samples, taking quick images and for time-lapse acquisition.

Data analysis workstations

Data analysis workstations

Workstations and virtual machines for data processing

Offers powerful computing machines with advanced GPUs for fast, parallelized processing of data acquired on our systems before moving them to users’ own storage. These are available as physical workstations in the facility as well as virtual machines that can be accessed remotely.
