Join our new training for teachers

Are you an educator looking for new inspiration on how to teach biology? We invite secondary school biology teachers to join a new online series of continued professional development workshops starting in April.

The short ELLS TeachingBASE workshops provide participants with hands-on training on using classroom-ready materials developed by ELLS. Each workshop will introduce an educational resource which aims to enrich science teaching in the classroom. Participants will get a chance to try out the learning material themselves, working in small teams to explore the resource from the perspectives of students and educators. The workshops will run for 90-120 minutes.

The theme of the first three workshops will be methods in molecular biology.

Workshop number 1 will introduce a paper-based educational resource to teach the concept of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using paper-based materials, the second workshop will cover a slightly more advanced approach to teaching about PCR using a computational tool. The third workshop will cover teaching DNA cloning using both paper-based and computational aids, with a strong focus on using the computer.

The first three workshops are open to educators who teach any level of upper secondary school biology and particularly suitable for those teaching students aged 16 and older. All workshops will take place online via Zoom and are designed to be stand-alone sessions. Registration closes 7 days prior to the respective event.

By the end of a TeachingBASE workshop, participants will
