The Library was opened on the 20th November 1979 and it is named after the Hungarian-American scientist Leo Szilárd, who in part initiated the idea of EMBL.
Our special collection dedicated to the first EMBL director Sir John C. Kendrew comprises of diverse monographs, written by Sir John Kendrew or by some of his co-workers, colleagues or close friends.
