The Library was opened on the 20th November 1979 and it is named after the Hungarian-American scientist Leo Szilárd, who in part initiated the idea of EMBL.
As we stepped into 2026, the Szilárd Library team continues to making scientific information more accessible, open, and engaging for researchers and staff across all EMBL sites. Read on for a snapshot of what's new and what's coming.
On 8 December 2022, inauguration of the new reading room in ATC took place. The opening was followed by several events to celebrate the official reopening of the Szilárd Library.
