Access to scientific literature and resources
By Katherine Hughes, EMBL Open Science Information Specialist
Welcome to Day 3 of The 5 Days of Open Access Week! We are making good progress.
For Open Access Week 2025, OSIM will release a blog post each day on a different topic with a short quiz or activity. Complete each activity, and you will be entered in a raffle to win a prize. You have until Friday 24th October to complete all activities.
Today OSIM is introducing its new EMBL Publication Form.
Getting a paper published can be confusing. Having to navigate between funder and institutional requirements that can directly conflict with publisher policies takes time away from research. The Office for Scientific Information Management (OSIM) was established to guide authors through the process and ensure authors meet EMBL’s open science requirements.
Additionally, OSIM monitors compliance with EMBL’s Open Science Policy. As you may already be aware, when an author has a paper accepted, OSIM sends a list of questions that get recorded and later analysed to assess the impact of our policy.

Open Access type distribution trends for EMBL-led papers from 2019 to 2024.
To streamline this process, OSIM has created an EMBL Publication Form. The form will help OSIM automate this process. The form includes the standard OS monitoring and will allow authors to send OSIM invoices or Author Accepted Manuscripts.
To help introduce the form, OSIM has also created a guide for authors and administrators. Of course, if there are any questions, don’t hesitate to email osim@embl.org.
Since we have made it over half way through OA Week – there is no quiz to complete today!
