Starting from 1st of January 2024, Szilárd Library will expand the services to EMBL-EBI and EMBL Barcelona site. This marks a significant milestone as Szilárd Library evolves into “One EMBL Library,” unifying services across all EMBL sites for the first time since its establishment in 1979.

The most important change is that all sites will have access to the same journal content. So far, the journal access for EBI and Barcelona sites was provided by Sanger and UPF Library. The Szilárd Library will now offer the entire portfolio of titles from Wiley, Springer Nature and Elsevier as well as other titles from various consortia and individual publishers. In most cases, this also includes free open access publishing options (so-called read and publish). The full list of journals can be found in the EMBL profile of the EZB database (update of the database is in progress).

Other library services include providing print books from the collection (life science books, but also career and personal development and popular science and EMBL related publications), additional free-of-charge article ordering for not-subscribed journal content, access to O’Reilly learning platform (access to e-books, tutorials, and training sessions covering software development, artificial intelligence, operations, data, UX design, finance, leadership, and more), newcomers introduction, administration of iThenticate antiplagiarism software, eLAB Journal accounts (an electronic lab notebook that helps organize and save the research lab procedures) and more.
