The International Day for Biological Diversity

Since the year 2000 The International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated globally on 22 May, to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on Biodiversity at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992.

This year’s theme is From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity” and it carries its own special significance due to adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework agreement at COP 15 in December 2022.

The message from CBD is short and clear: the focus must quickly shift to its implementation and actions.

Current concept of biodiversity includes complete biological diversity in the variability of life on Earth, at the genetic, species and ecosystem level. In our library there are extensive holdings on various topics on genomics, proteomics, molecular biology, cell biology.

For the occasion of The International Day for Biological Diversity, library reveals more species related topics. Read about biodiversity, extraordinary features of living organisms like electricity, regeneration and venoms, importance of fungi and microbes, geological history of life, the classic works of famous naturalist Wilson (Biophilia and The Diversity of Life) and latest edition on image acquisition and analysis in biology.
