Conference overview

Coming to EMBL Heidelberg following three previous editions in the UK and the US, this conference aims to help foster the development of a European hub for the emerging field, broadening participation and connecting the academic, clinical, and technology-oriented communities.

Convening researchers studying the origins, patterns, and consequences of mutations across cells, tissues, individuals, populations, and species, the meeting will explore genome evolution across diverse biological contexts and timescales, with relevance to human health, ageing, cancer, somatic mosaicism, developmental disorders, and fundamental evolutionary biology. Alongside cutting-edge discoveries, the highlight will be on emerging technologies and computational advances, including the AI-driven approaches that are transforming the study of mutational processes and genome evolution.

Key themes include mutagenesis and genome change, germline and population mutations, mutations across the tree of life, somatic evolution and disease, and synthetic genomics and perturbation-based approaches. The programme is designed to attract a broad audience, including cancer, evolutionary and population geneticists, developmental biologists, and medical researchers.

Invited speakers will represent diverse academic backgrounds, geographic regions, and career stages, complemented by talks selected from submitted abstracts. Strong emphasis will be placed on participation by trainees and early-career researchers to showcase recent advances and encourage long-lasting interdisciplinary collaborations.
