Innovative capacity and responsible governance, for the benefit of patients and society – these are the central tenets behind all of Charité research endeavors. At Charité, approximately 3,700 researchers are actively engaged in the development of pioneering innovations in the field of medicine. Committed to the highest standards of quality and sustainability, they work across 1,000 projects, working groups and collaborative projects. There is a particular focus on the interface between basic and patient-oriented research, which seeks to foster interdisciplinary collaborations with both national and international partners. Harnessing the potential of this approach is of particular importance  to Charité given that the most significant scientific developments are likely to arise from interdisciplinary cooperation.

As a partner in this project, Charité intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellows. Charité can host up to two Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at Charité. Duration of secondments will be between 2 and 6 months and will be arranged in communication with the Fellow. Fellows who will do secondments at Charité will come from the field related or complementary  to the field of work of Charité. At Charité Berlin Fellows will have a possibility to learn:

  • Tumor board meetings
    • Gene panel sequencing
    • Clinical study setup
    • Procedures for patient recruitment and standard treatment
    • PROMS

The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of:

  • Quantitative PCR – Droplet Digital PCR
    • Cell counter and Clean Bench
    • ELISA Reader
    • TapeStation,   Bioanalyzer for quality measurement in panel sequencing

Charité Berlin will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.

Charité intends also to host mini-secondments in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at the Department of Urology.
