IMIC as an independent legal entity in a public research is institution founded by the Czech Academy of Sciences according to the Czech Act 341/2005 Coll. and belongs to the largest and leading microbiology research institutes in Europe. The developed research comprises microbial physiology and molecular and cellular microbiology, immunology, biotechnology, biosynthesis of natural products, environmental and soil microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, immunology, gnotobiology and biology of photosynthetic microorganisms. As such the IMIC teams develop and use advanced optical and electron microscopy imaging, genomics and diverse analytical technologies, such as structural biology approaches, high resolution mass and NMR spectrometry, MS imaging and metabolomics.

As a partner in this project, IMIC intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellows. IMIC can ho st up to four Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at IMIC. Duration of secondments will be between 2 and 6 months and will be arranged in communication wit h the Fellow. Fellows who will do secondment s at IMIC will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of IMIC. At IMIC the Fellows will have a possibility to learn in particular a spectrum of molecular biology and imaging approaches and state-of-the art NMR and mass spectrometry techniques. The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of gnotobiotic facilities and electron microscopy, NMR and FT MS/MS equipments. IMIC will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During secondments, Fellowscan stay employed by EMBL.

IMIC intends also to host mini-secondments in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at IMIC.
