EMBL and FGCZ agree to foster the transnational, inter-sectorial and inter-disciplinary mobility of researchers and their training, opening new career perspectives, in line with the principles set out in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich is a joint state-of-the-art research and training facility of the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. With the latest technologies and key expertise for omics research, the FGCZ carries out research projects and technology development in collaboration with the local, national, and international life science research community and industry partners from biotech, pharma, and analytical areas.

As a partner in this project, FGCZ intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellows. FGCZ can host up to two Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at FGCZ. Duration of secondments will be between 2 and 6 months and will be arranged in communication with the Fellow. Fellows who will do secondments at FGCZ will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of FGCZ. At FGCZ Fellows will have a possibility to learn research support methodologies and technologies in the field of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of next generation sequencing and mass spectrometry equipment, as well as bioinformatics applications.

FGCZ will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.
