CrestOptics SpA (www.crestopt ics.com ) is a deep tech company headquartered in Rome. It was founded in 2009 in order to develop advanced electro-opt ic technologies for microbiology research, material sciences and diagnostics. The company has been growing very rapidly and has been selected for prestigious international awards in the field of technology companies (like Deloitte Tecnhnology FAST 500 I EMEA and Financial Times FT 1000) reaching 6.7 million euros of turnover in 2019.

The core product is a spinning -disk based confocal head for fluorescence microscopy with more than 200 units sold per year.

In 2018, thanks to the support of Principia SGR (that invested €5 million in CrestOptics), the company started a vast research project to find new advanced technologies for future products. The major evidence is the current Joint-Lab started in cooperation with the Italian Institute of Technology.

As a partner in this project, CrestOptics intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards t raining of the Fellows . CrestOptics can host up to two Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at CrestOptics. Duration of secondments will be between 3 and 12 months will be arranged in communication with the Fe llow . Fellows who will do secondments at CrestOptics will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of CrestOptics. At CrestOptics, Fellows will have a possibility to learn the development process of an industrial grade optical instrument from prototyping to commercial release.

They will get the chance to observe the production chain and understand the challenges of instrumentation testing and quality control. They will be able to cooperate with engineers specialized in different fields including optics, mechanics, electronics, biology, physics, computer science and marketing. Access will be provided to the latest versions of scientific and engineering software like Solidworks, Zemax OpticStudio, NIS, Metamorph, Altium etc. The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of cutting-edge microscope setups and quality control instrumentation. CrestOptics will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. Dur ing secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.

CrestOptics intends also to host mini-secondment s in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at CrestOptics.
