FutureLearn: ‘Genomics for educators’

Overview

The FutureLearn course ‘Genomics for educators’ covers strategies and techniques for teaching genomics in and outside of the classroom to create enriching learning opportunities. ‘Genomics for educators’ is designed for teachers and educators working in schools, colleges, and with young people as well as for science outreach and science communication professionals. The self-paced online course is free of charge and will run live over three weeks, with a recommended time of 4 hours a week.

The course is organised by Wellcome Connecting Science in collaboration with EMBL and STEM Learning UK.

By the end of the course, you‘ll be able to:

  • Demonstrate and discuss genomics topics confidently in the classroom
  • Create and deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences using open-access genomics resources
  • Design schemes of work and lesson plans incorporating genomics
  • Explore mapping of genomics to the curriculum and pitch material for different age and ability levels
  • Discuss the ethical implications of genomic technologies with students

The training course is organised by Wellcome Connecting Science in collaboration with EMBL and STEM Learning UK. The course is offered on the digital education platform FutureLearn.

Learning formats & certificate

The course is designed as a self-paced online learning experience. We recommend spending 4 hours of study per week.

After registration, you will get unlimited access to the course, including any articles, videos, peer reviews and quizzes and tests to validate your learning. After completion, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement.
