Overview

The Institute of Biosciences and Applications (IBE) of NCSR “Demokritos”, in collaboration with the European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS) of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), organises a laboratory workshop for secondary school teachers. The event will take place from Friday, 11 September to Sunday, 13 September 2020 at the facilities of IBE / NCSR “Demokritos” in Athens, Greece.

Organisers

The training course is organised as part of the ELLSconnect LearningLAB programme of EMBL’s science education department ELLS, bringing together teachers, EMBL scientists and alumni.

Course content

Researchers from IBE and EMBL will provide theoretical and practical training in well-established and more advanced laboratory techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology.

The aim of the workshop is to support the continuing education of secondary school biology teachers. Techniques addressed in the course will include real-time PCR, DNA and protein electrophoresis, and systemic microscopy. Lectures by EMBL researchers and alumni will cover cutting-edge molecular biology techniques and biomedical topics. The workshop will also cover identifying reliable scientific information in biomedical online databases.

The course is free of charge.

Requirements & certificate

Requirements
A large portion of the course will be held in the Greek language, so a high degree of Greek will be required to successfully complete the course.

Certification
Participants receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
