The European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS) invites European secondary school science teachers to apply for the ELLS LearningLAB “Bringing structures to life – new ways of teaching biology”. The course will take place in the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Hamburg, Germany on 10 and 11 October 2016. The course language is English and is free
The course will provide an interactive introduction to the field of structural biology. The professional training course for secondary school science teachers will consist of a mix of seminars by EMBL scientists, hands-on activities, lab experiments and visits to world-class research facilities on the campus of the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY). The programme will cover a wide range of topics and highlight the use of cutting-edge technologies to study macromolecular structures on the atomic scale, and how these topics may be transferred to the classrooms.

EMBL Hamburg is situated at the campus of DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron – German Electron Synchrotron) in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, Germany.

Single-room accommodation on the DESY campus will be provided free of charge for 2 nights to participants not residing in Hamburg. The nights covered are 9th and 10th October 2016, i.e. Sunday to Tuesday.
Travel expenses to and from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Hamburg, Germany need to be covered by the LearningLAB participants.
We have a small number of ELLS travel bursaries available to cover part of an individual’s travel expenses.
