EMBL Insight Lecture 2024
“Imaging life - How modern microscopes revolutionise biology” by Dr. Robert Prevedel
Formerly known as European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences
Our inspiring educational experiences share the scientific discoveries of EMBL with young learners aged 10-19 years and teachers in Europe and beyond. We belong to EMBL’s Science Education and Public Engagement office.
The EMBL Insight Lecture 2011 “Chemistry and Biology – Strong allies in the fight against cancer” was presented by Dr. Maja Köhn who is leading a research group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg.
Maja Köhn and her group are working to design molecules that inhibit proteins involved in disease mechanisms and on understanding molecular mechanisms of such proteins. During the EMBL Insight Lecture 2011 she illustrated how her lab investigates the role of phosphatases in cancer metastasis. And she demonstrated how inhibitors of phosphatases are designed by combining molecular biology, biochemistry and synthetic chemistry approaches.
• Proteins with different functions
• Cell signaling/ signal transduction
• Cancer biology/ Cancer hallmarks
• Cancer cell signaling
• The process of metastasis/ metastatic phosphatase PRL-3
• The concept of combinatorial chemistry
The EMBL Insight Lecture is available via on-demand-streaming from this website. You can either watch it directly in the window below. Alternatively, you can open the EMBL Insight Lecture here.
