EMBO | EMBL Symposium

Cell biology of the nucleus

Overview

This conference will take place at EMBL Heidelberg, with the option to attend virtually.

Registration is not yet open for this event. If you are interested in receiving more information please register your interest.

Symposium overview

The nucleus houses the genome and plays a central role in all cellular processes. Over the last decade, advances in modern genomics have provided important insight into 3D genome organisation but the underlying cell biology of the nucleus is often not considered. The nucleus is not just a passive scaffold for the genome: it is a highly dynamic organelle with a suite of unique mechanisms that help control its biochemical compartmentalization, its integration into both intra and extracellular mechanical networks, and its response to pathological and environmental insults. The goal of this conference is to showcase the cell biological mechanisms that define the nucleus as an organelle.

To meet this goal, we intend to bring together scientists from a range of backgrounds working on different aspects of the nucleus, including nuclear architecture, nuclear envelope remodeling, nuclear transport, nuclear mechanics, molecular machines, nuclear divisions, evolution, and biophysics of the nucleus.

What past participants say about the Symposium

Attending the conference at EMBL was a truly invaluable experience, providing a unique opportunity to engage with experts across a wide range of disciplines. The insightful Q&A sessions and thought-provoking discussions introduced innovative techniques, while the informal moments during lunch, dinner, and coffee breaks encouraged meaningful connections, making it an ideal environment for both learning and professional networking.” – Ajoy Paul, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India

It was a pleasure to attend a conference that covered so many topics involving the nucleus. Different approaches for different mechanisms and nuclear machinery. I feel I learned a lot and got to know really amazing speakers and participants!” – Ana Cobos, EMBL Heidelberg, Germany

This was an excellent conference, addressing a topic area that is not sufficiently covered by other organizers. The scientific quality of the talks was outstanding, and the discussions during the poster sessions and breaks were highly engaging. Overall, it was a truly exceptional experience.” – Daniel Gerlich, IMBA, Vienna BioCenter, Austria

About

EMBO | EMBL Symposia promote scientific communication and collaboration in the European research area. They provide scientists with a platform to discuss and exchange ideas on forward-looking topics and new developments in the life sciences.

Topics emphasise upcoming developments and the interdisciplinary nature of related fields. Jointly funded and organised by EMBO and EMBL – and complementary to their respective courses, workshops, and conference programmes – the symposia promote scientific communication and collaboration.

All symposia are held in the EMBL Advanced Training Centre (ATC) in Heidelberg, Germany, or virtually.
