EditConnecting, engaging and nurturing EMBL’s global community of current and former scientists, technicians, communicators and administrators
Alumni are making a huge difference by supporting EMBL as mentors, facilitators and advisors. Find out how you can volunteer.
Mentoring
An informal mentorship scheme for all members of the EMBL community (staff and alumni) where we encourage three meetings over a six month period.
Alumni mentors can contribute to the betterment of the life sciences community by supporting and inspiring scientists, science communicators and administrators at all stages in their careers.
Alumni interested in becoming mentors should take a moment to update their profile and select to receive mentoring requests from the Alumni Relations team.

Contribute to our YouTube channel
We are keen to capture the stories of our diverse and talented alumni community through our YouTube channel. If you would like to be considered for an interview as part of our Alumni Chats series we’d love to hear from you.
We’d also be keen to explore new ideas for content on the channel, that engages our alumni community and the wider public on EMBL’s five missions.

Write an article for our website
We also have a growing library of articles from our alumni on our webpages showcasing the outcomes of their fundamental research, reflections on EDI initiatives or new career directions after EMBL.
We can work with interested alumni to produce articles and share them through our LinkedIn Page and monthly newsletter.
If you have a story to tell about your achievements since EMBL, please get in touch.

Provide your message of support to EMBL graduates
Each year, EMBL holds a ceremony to celebrate its newest group of PhDs who graduated during the last 12 months from all six sites.
As a gift to them, we create a display of well wishes, words of advice and congratulations from former predocs to give the graduands a sense of the generous and talented alumni community they are now formally a part of.
If you are an alumnus of the PhD programme you can provide your own quote.

Thank you to all of our alumni volunteers
Thank you to all members of the alumni community who have supported EMBL in some way. From our EMBL Alumni Association Board members, to alumni organising events, supporting training, speaking at conferences, mentoring, contributing to our media channels, serving on working groups or evaluating and selecting award recipients.
Since 2023, over 700 alumni have volunteered in a meaningful way to support EMBL. Thank you once again!
