4th EMBL Retirees’ Afternoon
More than 30 EMBL retirees and their spouses gathered for the 4th annual Retirees’ Afternoon on Friday 22 March 2019.
Participants were welcomed back to EMBL by Matthias Hentze, EMBL Director. Mehrnoosh Rayner, EMBL Head of Alumni Relations, presented on what and who is new at EMBL, highlighting outreach activities of relevance to this group.
In addition, the programme included presentations on:
- Growth at EMBL by Rainer Menzel, EMBL Head of Facility Management
- Plans for EMBL’s new Imaging Centre by Rainer Pepperkok, EMBL Head of Core Facilities and Head of Advanced Light Microscopy
- Proposals for an EMBL Visitor Centre which will be housed in the same building as the Imaging Centre by Verena Viarisio, EMBL Outreach and Local Communications Manager.
The programme was followed by a cheese and wine reception lasting into the early evening with musical accompaniment on the piano by Jimmy Godfrey Mpungu, Founder of the Child Care Project in Uganda and Heidelberg, and Hao Yu, Developer at SAP SE in Walldorf.
This was a fantastic opportunity for EMBL’s community of retirees to reconnect with friends as well as current and former staff.
