Alumni Relations

Connecting, engaging and nurturing EMBL’s global community of current and former scientists, technicians, communicators and administrators

Help complete the picture of EMBL alumni impact

To build the fullest possible picture of how EMBL alumni continue to shape science, innovation and society around the world, we need to hear from more members of our community.

Hundreds of alumni have already contributed to the 2026 EMBL Alumni Impact Survey, sharing insights into their careers, achievements and experiences beyond EMBL.

The survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete and forms part of a broader effort to better understand and document these contributions. Building on EMBL’s 2014 alumni impact study, the findings will contribute to the 2026 EMBL Alumni Impact Report and a new online platform that will showcase the collective achievements and experiences of EMBL alumni.

The value of this survey lies in hearing from alumni across every career path. Whether you work in research, technology, policy, administration, healthcare, education or another field entirely, your experience is an important part of EMBL’s story.

The survey also provides an opportunity to reflect on EMBL’s future. Alumni are being invited to share their perspectives on the role EMBL has played in their careers, what distinguishes the institute, and how it can continue to support the life sciences in the decades ahead.

If you have not yet done so, please help us by taking part in the 2026 EMBL Alumni Impact Survey by Friday 12th June. Every response helps build a richer picture of the EMBL community and its contribution to science and society, and will help inform conversations about EMBL’s future role and impact.

Together, these perspectives will help tell the story of what EMBL has made possible through its people, and what it can continue to make possible in the years ahead.

So far, 400 participants from more than 35 countries have shared their contributions to research, healthcare, technology, policy and entrepreneurship, illustrating the many ways EMBL alumni continue to advance discovery, innovation and collaboration around the world.

“This survey is not about measuring EMBL’s achievements. It is about understanding how EMBL alumni have contributed and continue to contribute to science, innovation and society, and how these contributions collectively deliver on EMBL’s mission. The picture only emerges when thousands of individual stories are viewed together.”
