Access to scientific literature and resources
To avoid the probability of plagiarism in theses and scientific manuscripts and to ensure EMBL’s high quality of research output, the Szilárd Library has licensed the plagiarism detection software, iThenticate.
All group leaders and post-docs who supervise scientific work such as master theses or doctoral theses can use the software.
In order to get an iThenticate account, you need to contact the library. We are also happy to show you how to use the software. You can also watch the demo video below and find more useful information in the User Guide.
As defined in EMBL’s Policy Rules of good scientific practice (IP51), plagiarism is ‘the appropriation of another person’s ideas, method, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit, including those obtained through confidential review of others’ research proposals and manuscripts’. This act constitutes a core ‘scientific misconduct’ that also violates the Code of Conduct issued by the Director General which establishes the principle that ‘we are committed to honesty and rigour in our scientific and other endeavours’ at EMBL.
