Unfold Your World: nature’s molecular wonders was developed in 2024 as part of EMBL’s 50th birthday celebrations. This collaborative initiative grew from the pioneering work of the PDBe team at EMBL-EBI and offers a dynamic fusion of arts and science, using proteins as creative inspiration. The project aimed to ignite curiosity about proteins and encourage young people to respond creatively to their discoveries. Teenagers aged 14-18 from across Europe submitted artworks inspired by protein form and function, all of which are now showcased online. The project culminated in December with a vernissage, an exhibition preview, showcasing art works alongside an exciting program with protein-themed activities.
Feeling inspired? Dive into the world of proteins through our tutorials, explore the PBDe webpage, and unleash your creativity by crafting your own protein-inspired artwork!
In addition to the artworks showcased on the LED wall, a display case at the exhibition entrance tells the story of this innovative project, including photos and press cuttings from the Unfold Your World vernissage in December 2024, which was attended by more than 250 people. The Unfold Your World exhibits will be on display until Autumn 2025.
The World of Molecular Biology is open to the public every Wednesday, and welcomes school visits as well as hosting community and member state groups Monday to Friday all year round.
