International Day of LGBTQ+ People in STEM – Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

International Day of LGBTQ+ People in STEM

Observed annually on November 18th, International Day of LGBTQ+ People in STEM is a celebration and recognition of the contributions, challenges, and aspirations of individuals within the LGBTQ+ community who are making strides in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Stemming from a need to promote inclusivity and diversity in these fields, this day aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ professionals and students and to foster an environment where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can thrive.

To celebrate this day, EMBL annually puts up the rainbow flag on Heidelberg campus. This year, it is up all week from November 13th to November 17th.

Additionally, EDI Office and EMBL LGBTQ+ team will host a rainbow beer hour on Friday, November 17th, starting from 16:30 at the Staff lounge in Heidelberg. Come join us for a drink, grab a new EMBL ally sticker, and find out how you can be involved in the EMBL LGBTQ+ team activities!
