Consulting

The Data Science Centre offers consulting to all EMBL fellows and staff in the following areas:

Cloud Computing and Storage

Selection and provisioning of the hardware resources needed to handle online applications and datasets

Computational Biology

General bioinformatics, command line, scripting, task/analysis automation, and biocomputing at EMBL

Mathematical Modelling

Adopting mathematical modelling techniques and interchange of existing modelling expertise throughout EMBL

Scientific Workflows and Data Management

Use and develop scientific workflows and data management best practices to improve the efficiency and reproducibility of research outputs

Statistical Methods

Visualisation, experimental design, hypothesis testing, supervised and unsupervised learning

Image Analysis

Reproducibly extract biophysically meaningful information from microscopy data

How we work

During a consultation with one of our consultants, we engage in an open and focused discussion of your research or technical question, asking targeted questions to fully understand your project and its context. By bringing strong domain knowledge, we help identify suitable methods and alternative approaches that may not have been considered before.

Follow-up sessions are possible and will be tailored to your needs, with flexibility in scope and timing. These sessions can include guidance on implementing suggested methods, re-evaluating results after additional data collection, or refining the direction of the project. Our goal is to empower you to confidently work with your data on your own.

As part of a collaboration, we can perform analyses for you, or implement custom data management procedures and analysis workflows.
If you prefer full control of your project, our collaboration offer includes long-term, hands-on guidance, remaining closely involved and committed to your project while supporting you in developing sustainable, independent data science skills.
