Tara Oceans Exhibition
On 31st March 2012, the schooner Tara – equipped with technology for sampling organisms covering entire plankton communities – came back to her home port, Lorient, France, after two-and-a-half years of circumnavigation.
The expedition, led by EMBL Group Leader Eric Karsenti, collected high quality and standardised genetic (total DNA/RNA), morphological, and physico-chemical samples from 210 marine stations across the world oceans. A team of international scientists has since been analyzing the data, and will continue for many years to explore the information from the 35000 samples brought back.
This exhibition presents the first scientific results they published and looks forward to the next ones.
