Strategy

Established to advance the study of molecular biology across Europe, to nurture young talent, new ideas, and technologies, EMBL is constantly evolving and innovating. As Europe’s only intergovernmental organisation for life science research, EMBL strives to be at the forefront of modern biology and to build the foundations for future success.

The Strategy Office has overall strategic responsibility to develop and shape future strategy as well as align strategic priorities for execution and implementation. We are also responsible for strategic planning, reporting and communication to provide cohesive and forward-looking scientific directions across all of EMBL’s six sites. The team works closely with the Director General and many other departments within EMBL to achieve this.

Portfolio

Guides the development, production and implementation of the five-year EMBL Programmes which serve as the Laboratory's scientific strategy;
Provides scientific and strategic expertise and support to senior management, particularly the Director General;
Advises on and assists with EMBL's stakeholder engagement, advocacy activities and communication strategy;
Conceptualises, shapes and coordinates pan-EMBL strategic projects, many of which involve consultative processes;
Ensures the smooth flow of key information about EMBL's scientific and operational activities, providing institutional metrics relevant to the organisation as a whole;
Gains and incorporates external insights on the long-term view of life sciences research and research infrastructures, develops proposals for new initiatives and identifies opportunities for establishing new links with external stakeholder institutes.
