Modernising operations for an innovative culture
As an intergovernmental organisation that delivers world-class life sciences research, training, and services, EMBL is committed to further modernising its operations to ensure its operating model, systems and processes, and facilities support EMBL’s innovative, collaborative culture.
A central aim of this aspect of the Programme is to strengthen EMBL’s position as an internationally attractive employer of highly skilled scientists, as well as technical and operational staff from around the world. How we attract, reward, develop, engage, and retain our people, and ensure their well-being is central to this pillar. In particular, it includes adjusting recruitment strategies to attract leading professionals from disciplines less familiar with EMBL, such as engineers, mathematicians, data scientists, theoreticians, physicists, and chemists. Equally, EMBL will strengthen career development opportunities for all areas of our organisation, further our equality, diversity, and inclusion strategy, and look at opportunities to create sustainable campuses with ‘green’ work practices. Operational and administrative processes will be further digitalised leading to efficiency gains, increased transparency, and better management information and decision- making tools. Additionally, through local collaborations, partnerships, and engagements, each EMBL site will engage and exchange with local institutes, regions, and national initiatives.

Join a community of world-class researchers and skilled professionals working together to uncover the secrets of life.
EMBL’s vision is to advance understanding of ecosystems at the molecular level and study life in context. The result will be fundamental research that expands what we know about life on earth and provides the means to address major global challenges.
This new Programme will expand EMBL’s scope to study the molecular basis of life in the context of changing environments, transforming our understanding of life on earth and informing potential solutions for some of society’s biggest challenges, such as irreversible loss of biodiversity, antimicrobial resistance, pollution, climate change, food security, and emergent pathogens.
