IT Services

Bringing digital biology to life

Our mission is to empower our users by providing a state-of-the-art, affordable and easy-to-use IT environment.

EMBL IT Services provide IT infrastructure, services and support to EMBL’s scientific community and administration in Heidelberg, Rome, Barcelona, as well as other EMBL sites.

Research in molecular life science is becoming data-intensive. As new technologies enable EMBL’s scientists to acquire more – and more complex – data, the IT Services team deploys innovative approaches to help them store, analyse and make sense of that wealth of information.

What EMBL researchers say about IT Services

Efficient computation

“I’m very happy with the new system they’re setting up, which is the state-of-the-art in high-performance computing.”

Jaime Huerta
Research Scientist, Bork Group

Handling datasets

“What I find very special about the IT department here is that you can come to them with a problem and they’ll solve it very quickly. The efficiency of the team is really remarkable.”

Alba Diz-Muñoz
Group Leader, Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit

Maximising power

“Having seen the computational infrastructure that’s available elsewhere, I believe we were able to get this work done much faster at EMBL than would be possible at most other institutions”

Luis Pedro Coelho
Postdoctoral Fellow, Bork Group
