Genetic mutations, heredity, environment and lifestyle all play a part in causing and progressing cancer.
Visit the EMBL Exhibition
As part of EMBL’s 50th anniversary celebrations, “The World of Molecular Biology” EMBL’s permanent exhibition is launching a series of themed tours focusing on specific aspects of basic research at EMBL.
The first tour will focus on cancer research at EMBL. Jan Korbel, head of the international Pan-Cancer Project for the Heidelberg site, will guide visitors through the exhibition. He will provide insights into cancer research and explain the approach, methods and objectives of this now completed international project, in which more than 1300 scientists from 37 countries took part in.
The tour is free of charge, however pre-registration is required.
The themed tour is a recurring offer. As soon as further dates are fixed, they will be published here.

Four special interest themes are woven into the exhibition. You can explore those themes and discover how they are connected to EMBL research via your own mobile device during your visit.
Genetic mutations, heredity, environment and lifestyle all play a part in causing and progressing cancer.
Data science and artificial intelligence techniques are bringing new biological insights.
Genetic changes have driven the evolution of species over billions of years.
Biological research can bring enormous benefits in treating disease, but it also raises significant ethical questions.
You will find accessible toilets adjacent to the World of Molecular Biology. An accessible elevator connects the two floors of the exhibition.
All visits are in the form of booked tours, in either German or English, led by a member of staff who can accommodate the specific needs of your group.
At present, there is no publicly available catering on the EMBL Heidelberg campus.
