EditInternal and external trainings in the new directions
EMBL will provide state-of-the-art scientific training for internal and external participants, embracing the new transversal themes and contributing to EMBL’s science.
As one of its five missions, EMBL training aims to foster scientific inquiry and discovery among scientists, students, and visitors at all levels. In line with the Molecules to Ecosystems Programme, EMBL Internal Training will develop and integrate state-of-the art training modules in the new research themes to its current portfolio. Its training and career development support will provide EMBL PhD and postdoctoral fellows with the foundations to build successful careers in academia and other sectors. EMBL External Training will provide scalable opportunities for learning and knowledge exchange in new topics related to the EMBL Programme themes, through its courses, conferences, and an expanded on-demand eLearning offering. EMBL’s European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS) will further empower teachers to deliver modern and authentic life sciences education through free high-quality educational resources based on EMBL’s new research themes. The EMBL Scientific Visitor Programme will enable scientists at all career stages to embed themselves in an EMBL group or team for several months, providing deeper scientific exchange and fostering new collaborations in the transversal themes.
“EMBL training will provide scientists at all career stages with the tools needed to fulfil the potential of our new Programme. The diverse range of training formats will bring together experts to share new ideas and techniques, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and enable scientists to develop strategies to drive their future research.”

EMBL’s vision is to advance understanding of ecosystems at the molecular level and study life in context. The result will be fundamental research that expands what we know about life on earth and provides the means to address major global challenges.
This new Programme will expand EMBL’s scope to study the molecular basis of life in the context of changing environments, transforming our understanding of life on earth and informing potential solutions for some of society’s biggest challenges, such as irreversible loss of biodiversity, antimicrobial resistance, pollution, climate change, food security, and emergent pathogens.
