University of Luxembourg

Expanding collaboration in research and training across cutting-edge scientific domains.

EMBL and the University of Luxembourg (and the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine in particular) have been long-standing collaborators, including several joint research initiatives that have received support from the National Research Fund (FNR) of Luxembourg. Recognizing their shared willingness to strengthen existing collaborative ties, the University of Luxembourg and EMBL have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

With this Memorandum, EMBL and the University of Luxembourg aim to stimulate mutually beneficial scientific and academic exchange and collaboration in order to ensure greater connectivity, availability of scientific data, use of shared key technologies and circulation of talent. Specific topics of research interest pertain in particular to the transversal themes of Planetary Biology and Microbial Ecosystems of EMBL’s scientific Programme Molecules to Ecosystems; as well as the area of One Health. Further areas of mutual scientific interest include but are not limited to bioinformatics, artificial intelligence applications in biomedicine, genetics, genomics and neurodegenerative disease research.

Among others, this MoU will support joint work in areas such as developing research and service collaboration in fields of mutual interest; jointly applying to third-party funding; exchange of scientific information; joint scientific meetings, conferences, symposia, and training events; encouraging researchers’ mobility and so on.
