We are committed to creating and sustaining a culture in which our diversity is celebrated and where all staff are included and treated equally, irrespective of their ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age or disability.

As a global organisation with employees from across the world, EMBL encourages and empowers its employees to be their authentic selves at work and takes its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion seriously.

We seek to examine our policies and practices and, informed by data, to develop strategies to bring about positive change for all staff.

The Campus Equality in Science Programme

The Equality in Science Programme  is a shared initiative of the Wellcome Genome Campus where EMBL-EBI is located.

Originally established as Sex in Science in 2011, Equality in Science aims to generate discussion, raise awareness and share best practice about a broad range of issues that impact the lives of our colleagues.

The Equality in Science Programme is the home of the campus LGBTQ+ network, as well as the Race Equity Network and Parent and Carers’ Network.

The programme regularly organises a wide range of events and activities, such as workshops, career days, discussion panels and debates. In addition, each year Equality in Science marks International Women’s Day with the Wellcome Genome Campus Best Practice Awards for Supporting Equality and Diversity in Science.

Equality in Science Interest Group at EMBL-EBI

The Equality in Science Interest Group at EMBL-EBI provides a bridge between EMBL-EBI, the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office at EMBL and the Campus Equality in Science Programme.

The group meets four times per year and provides a forum for information exchange and debate.
