Biography

Pedro holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering, a master's degree in AI research, and a PhD in Bioinformatics from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland awarded in 2015 with the support of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship. Before joining EMBL-EBI’s Expression Atlas team in 2021, he led computational data-driven research as a bioinformatician and computational biologist at the University of Cambridge and the Sanger Institute, focusing on areas such as stem cell biology and cancer research. He has developed new methods that utilise very large omics datasets to extract biological insights, and worked closely with scientists to bring bioinformatics to complex biological problems.

As part of the Data Production Bioinformatics at the Functional Genomics Team, he contributes to the Expression Atlas and Single-Cell Expression Atlas EMBL-EBI’s open science resources.

Pedro also has expertise and interest in Space Omics, having participated in projects funded by several space agencies, such as ESA. He currently serves as a member of the International Standards for Space Omics Processing Consortium (ISSOP) and the analysis working group of the NASA Open Science Data Repository (OSDR).
