Biography

Ian supports global engagement in the Training team, ensuring data from under represented regions is incorporated in open, global databases in order to inform research and decision making. The current priority continues to be Covid, pandemic preparation, and the European Nucleotide Archive.



Ian joined EMBL-EBI in October 2017 as the project manager of CABANA. His early career interest was in public health and infectious diseases. He spent twelve years implementing and overseeing development projects in Rwanda, Sudan, Ghana, and The West Bank and Gaza. He also worked on shorter assignments in Morocco, Kenya, and Afghanistan.



His continuing interests is the linkage of science with civil society in order to inform policy and practice. He is a great fan of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.



Ian holds a Master's degree in public health engineering and another in business administration.
