Gemma Wood

Gemma joined EMBL-EBI in September 2020 to lead the Communications team. The team raises the profile of the institute by co-ordinating media relations, digital and social media communications, events and exhibitions, corporate publications, design and branding and video production. They also provide strategic leadership and support for EMBL-EBI’s public engagement activities.

Before joining EMBL-EBI Gemma was at the Francis Crick Institute, where she led the external affairs team in a maternity cover role. Gemma’s background is in political and strategic communications in the UK charity and not for profit sectors. Prior to her role at the Crick she developed and led a public affairs function at EngineeringUK, a charity that delivers and co-ordinates STEM engagement activities. Gemma spent 15 years as a trustee of the international HIV charity AVERT and is a school governor.
