{"id":44708,"date":"2021-12-09T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-09T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/?p=44708"},"modified":"2024-03-22T15:17:33","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T14:17:33","slug":"strengthening-collaborations-in-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/lab-matters\/strengthening-collaborations-in-france\/","title":{"rendered":"Strengthening collaborations in France"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Planetary biology, marine biology, microbial ecosystems, human ecosystems, ecology, and environmental sciences \u2014 these cross-disciplinary topics are the focus of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently signed by EMBL and the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnrs.fr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> French National Centre for Scientific Research<\/a> (CNRS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With environmental challenges becoming more relevant to human health and ecosystems, multidisciplinary research with relevance to the focus areas of the MoU will be at the heart of the collaboration between EMBL and the CNRS. The French interdisciplinary public research organisation is among the world\u2019s leading scientific institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientists at EMBL and at the CNRS laboratories have already established a number of connections and collaborations in the past few decades. The MoU aims to strengthen these links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis collaboration between EMBL and the CNRS will facilitate bringing together the right people to research human and planetary health,\u201d said EMBL Director General Edith Heard. \u201cThe future scientific plans of the CNRS and EMBL are well aligned, so we hope to drive forward European life sciences together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EMBL\u2019s French site in Grenoble already cooperates with the Institut de Biologie Structurale (a laboratory jointly operated by the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission CEA, the CNRS, and the Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes, UGA) through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/partnerships\/local\/structural-biology\/\">Partnership for Structural Biology<\/a>. The partnership was created together with the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility and the Institut Laue-Langevin on the European Photon and Neutron science campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, EMBL Grenoble has been building scientific collaborations with the Grenoble-based Institute of Advanced Biosciences (IAB, a laboratory jointly operated by the CNRS, Inserm, and UGA) for more than 15 years. This strong connection was also recently reinforced with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/lab-matters\/embl-and-iab-sign-memorandum-of-understanding\/\"> an MoU between IAB and EMBL<\/a> to expand collaboration across EMBL sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, connections with two more institutes of the CNRS \u2014 the Institute of Biological Sciences (INSB) and the Institute of Ecology and Environment (INEE) \u2014 have been established through the collaboration with Tara Oceans, which was initiated by former EMBL Group Leader and the CNRS Director of Research Eric Karsenti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new MoU between EMBL and the CNRS is therefore part of a natural process to establish a cross-organisation collaboration in research, scientific services, and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This agreement establishes prospects for collaboration that break with previous programmes and targets new scales of investigation to better address the complexity of biological interactions in a changing environment,&#8221; said Antoine Petit, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CNRS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"french\">Renforcement des collaborations en France<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">L&#8217;EMBL et le CNRS ont sign\u00e9 un protocole d&#8217;entente<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Biologie plan\u00e9taire et marine, \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes microbiens et humains, \u00e9cologie et sciences de l&#8217;environnement \u2014 ces th\u00e8mes transversaux sont au c\u0153ur du protocole d&#8217;entente qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 sign\u00e9 r\u00e9cemment par l&#8217;EMBL et le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnrs.fr\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre national de la recherche scientifique<\/a> (CNRS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les d\u00e9fis environnementaux devenant de plus en plus importants pour la sant\u00e9 humaine et celle des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes, la recherche multidisciplinaire en rapport avec les domaines d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat du protocole d\u2019entente sera au c\u0153ur de la collaboration entre l&#8217;EMBL et le CNRS. L&#8217;organisme public de recherche interdisciplinaire fran\u00e7ais figure parmi les principales institutions scientifiques du monde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les scientifiques de l&#8217;EMBL ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9tabli un certain nombre de connexions et de collaborations avec des laboratoires du CNRS au cours des derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies. Ce protocole d&#8217;entente vise \u00e0 renforcer ces liens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Cette collaboration entre l&#8217;EMBL et le CNRS va faciliter la mise en relation des personnes cl\u00e9s dont les recherches portent sur la sant\u00e9 humaine et plan\u00e9taire&#8221;, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Edith Heard, directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l&#8217;EMBL. &#8220;Les projets scientifiques du CNRS et de l&#8217;EMBL pour le futur sont bien align\u00e9s; nous esp\u00e9rons donc faire avancer ensemble les sciences de la vie au niveau europ\u00e9en.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le site fran\u00e7ais de l&#8217;EMBL \u00e0 Grenoble coop\u00e8re d\u00e9j\u00e0 avec l&#8217;Institut de biologie structurale (un laboratoire g\u00e9r\u00e9 conjointement par le CEA, le CNRS et l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes, UGA) par le biais du <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/partnerships\/local\/structural-biology\/\">Partenariat pour la biologie structurale<\/a>.
