This is a crucial moment for the life sciences in Europe and beyond, and the enthusiasm, skills, and experience that Fiona brings with her will be a great asset for EMBO.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fiona Watt is founding director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/lsm\/research\/divisions\/gmm\/departments\/stemcells\">Centre for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at King&#8217;s College London<\/a>, UK, as well as the executive chair of the Medical Research Council. Her research interest is the role of stem cells in adult tissue maintenance and how this information can be harnessed for regenerative medicine. She has been a member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/governance\/scientific-advisory-committee\/\">EMBL\u2019s Scientific Advisory Committee<\/a> since 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The British cell biologist will succeed Maria Leptin, who was recently appointed as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/lab-matters\/maria-leptin-erc-president\/\">next President of the European Research Council.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EMBO Director is appointed by EMBO Council. As EMBO Director, Fiona Watt will further develop the programmes offered by EMBO to support life scientists in Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She will take up her appointment in early
