{"id":38410,"date":"2021-05-10T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/?p=38410"},"modified":"2024-03-22T11:08:21","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T10:08:21","slug":"embl-and-inserm-to-join-forces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/lab-matters\/embl-and-inserm-to-join-forces\/","title":{"rendered":"EMBL and Inserm to join forces"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>EMBL and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inserm.fr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inserm<\/a>, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their scientific cooperation through joint scientific meetings and conferences, training courses, attracting young talent, and applications for international collaborative funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This agreement has been born out of the numerous scientific links already in place between the institutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As areas of mutual interest, the MoU identifies numerous scientific themes in the next EMBL Programme, <em>Molecules to Ecosystems<\/em>. Within the framework of the collaboration, both institutes will focus on these themes, which include microbial ecosystems, infection biology, genomic medicine, exposome research, data science, and other areas falling under the theme of human ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInserm has played a pioneering role in France in bridging medical and fundamental research. This MoU with Inserm is central to EMBL\u2019s future plans with France and represents a natural link between our two institutions. It will allow us to develop new ties in many areas of mutual interest. We\u2019re creating links to strengthen the scientific ecosystem between EMBL and France, enabling joint initiatives in research, training, and innovation, with the overarching aim of driving forward European life science,\u201d says EMBL Director General Edith Heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration also aims to encourage mobility of young researchers, with the goal of increasing links between the French research landscape and EMBL.<\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\"\/>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"french\">L&#8217;EMBL et l&#8217;Inserm unissent leurs forces<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un protocole d&#8217;entente a \u00e9t\u00e9 sign\u00e9 entre l&#8217;EMBL et l&#8217;Inserm, l&#8217;Institut national fran\u00e7ais de la sant\u00e9 et de la recherche m\u00e9dicale.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>L&#8217;EMBL et l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inserm.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inserm<\/a>, l&#8217;Institut national fran\u00e7ais de la sant\u00e9 et de la recherche m\u00e9dicale, ont sign\u00e9 un protocole d&#8217;entente pour renforcer leur coop\u00e9ration scientifique par le biais de r\u00e9unions et conf\u00e9rences scientifiques communes, de cours et formations, du recrutement de jeunes talents, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 travers des demandes conjointes de financement de collaborations internationales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cet accord s\u2019est naturellement constitu\u00e9 des nombreux liens scientifiques d\u00e9j\u00e0 existants entre les deux institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le protocole d&#8217;entente identifie par ailleurs comme domaines d&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eat mutuel de nombreuses th\u00e9matiques scientifiques du prochain programme de l&#8217;EMBL, <em>Des mol\u00e9cules aux \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes<\/em>. Les deux institutions se concentreront donc, dans le cadre de cette collaboration, sur des th\u00e9matiques telles que les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes microbiens, la biologie des infections, la m\u00e9decine g\u00e9nomique, la recherche sur les exposomes, la science des donn\u00e9es et d&#8217;autres domaines relevant de la th\u00e9matique des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes humains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;L&#8217;Inserm a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le pionnier en France dans le rapprochement entre la recherche m\u00e9dicale et la recherche fondamentale. Ce protocole d&#8217;entente avec l&#8217;Inserm est au c\u0153ur des projets futurs de l&#8217;EMBL avec la France et repr\u00e9sente un lien naturel entre nos deux institutions. Il nous permettra de d\u00e9velopper de nouvelles interactions dans de nombreux domaines d&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eat mutuel. Nous cr\u00e9ons ces liens afin de renforcer l&#8217;\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me scientifique entre l&#8217;EMBL et la France, de permettre des initiatives communes en mati\u00e8re de recherche, de formation et d&#8217;innovation, dans le but g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de faire progresser les sciences de la vie en Europe,\u201d d\u00e9clare Edith Heard, directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l&#8217;EMBL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette collaboration vise \u00e9galement \u00e0 encourager la mobilit\u00e9 des jeunes chercheurs, dans le but d&#8217;accro\u00eetre les interactions entre la
