{"id":30176,"date":"2020-07-21T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/?p=30176"},"modified":"2024-03-22T10:46:56","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T09:46:56","slug":"potw2029","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/picture-of-the-week\/potw2029\/","title":{"rendered":"A bright view of the future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On 1 April 2019, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/events\/foundation-stone-laid-for-embl-imaging-centre\/\"> foundation stone ceremony<\/a> took place for the EMBL Imaging Centre, located at EMBL\u2019s campus in Heidelberg. In the past year the construction works have transformed the deep construction pit into an already fantastic-looking shell, which will be completed and open to scientists from all over the world in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/imaging-centre\/\">EMBL Imaging Centre<\/a> will give researchers access to the latest microscopy technologies: it will host state-of-the-art high- and ultrahigh-resolution electron and light microscopy techniques, including new developments not yet commercially available. The heart of the centre will comprise several high-end electron and light microscopes. Among them are microscopes \u2013 co-developed at EMBL \u2013 specifically configured for linking light and electron microscopy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The image shows one of the four rows of roof lights above the atrium, which is the main public space of the building. The atrium, and several spaces on Level 2 of the building, will host an interactive exhibition.
