Next&nbsp;year&#8217;s calendar includes a record nine EMBO|EMBL Symposia, as well as new and established conferences, many of which focus on the rapidly advancing fields that aim to understand the structure of the genome and its role in health and disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seeing is Believing is back for the third time, and is sure to attract the largest number of exhibitors, showcasing the latest imaging techniques and instrumentation. New EMBO|EMBL symposia include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a title=\"Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration\" href=\"http:\/\/www.embo-embl-symposia.org\/symposia\/2015\/EES15-03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mechanism of Neurodegeneration<\/a><\/li><li><a title=\"Enabling Technologies for Eukaryotic Systems Biology\" href=\"http:\/\/www.embo-embl-symposia.org\/symposia\/2015\/EES15-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Enabling Technologies for Eukaryotic Systems Biology<\/a><\/li><li><a title=\"The Mobile Genome: Genetic and Physiological Impacts of Transposable Elements\" href=\"http:\/\/www.embo-embl-symposia.org\/symposia\/2015\/EES15-05\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Mobile Genome<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"The Human Microbiome\" href=\"http:\/\/www.embl.de\/training\/events\/2015\/MET15-01\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><br \/>The Human Microbiome<\/a>, an EMBL conference, will take place for the first time, focusing on research into understanding the dramatic impact of our microbiota on human health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a title=\"EMBL courses 2015\" href=\"http:\/\/www.embl.de\/training\/events\/index.php?p_eventType=COU&amp;p_outstation=ALL&amp;p_timeRange=2015&amp;sub=Show+Events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">courses line-up for 2015<\/a> is equally diverse, including more than 30 different opportunities to train at different levels, from introductory to advanced. Hands-on courses confirmed for next year cover next-generation sequencing and fluorescence microscopy applications, as well as the long-running EMBO Practical Course: Single-Cell Gene Expression and hugely popular EMBO Practical Course: Current Methods in Cell Biology. New on the agenda is an intensive, two-week EMBO Practical Course: Synthetic Biology in Action \u2013 the first of its kind in Europe to provide such in-depth training to a small group of students in this field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-2685\"><figure class=\"vf-figure  | vf-figure--align vf-figure--align-centered \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" class=\"vf-figure__image\" src=\"http:\/\/news.embl.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/1411_events1.jpg\" alt=\"Drawing the crowds to the EMBL Advanced Training Centre. PHOTO: Julie Forbes \u2013 Button Blue Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2014: Anniversaries and top-quality scientific training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This year has been marked by <a title=\"EMBL 40th anniversary celebrations\" href=\"http:\/\/news.embl.de\/tag\/anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">anniversary celebrations across EMBL<\/a>, alongside 24 conferences and 46 training courses for scientists at the EMBL headquarters and outstations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference year kicked off with the always successful <a title=\"EMBO Conference Series: Visualizing Biological Data \" href=\"http:\/\/www.vizbi.org\/2014\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EMBO Conference Series: Visualizing Biological Data<\/a>, which brought together scientists, illustrators, and designers involved in computational visualisation of diverse biological data. The annual <a title=\"BioMalPar|EVIMalaR \" href=\"http:\/\/www.embl.de\/training\/events\/2014\/BMP14-01\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BioMalPar|EVIMalaR conference<\/a>&nbsp;celebrated its 10th anniversary at the EMBL Advanced Training Centre, whilst six EMBO|EMBL Symposia were added to the programme, focusing on topics including Translating Diabetes, Tumour Microenvironment, Molecular Machines, Epithelia, mRNA and Metabolism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established meetings \u2013 including the EMBO Conference Series\u2019 on Microtubules, Chemical Biology, Evolution and Ecology using Yeast, and From Functional Genomics to Systems Biology \u2013 further cemented EMBO and EMBL\u2019s positions as hubs for high-quality research and ground-breaking scientific training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2014 EMBL Course and Conference Programme was generously supported by 98 organisations \u2013 particular thanks is extended to the members of the <a title=\"EMBL ATC Corporate Partnership Programme\" href=\"http:\/\/www.embl.de\/aboutus\/resource_dev\/cpp\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Corporate Partnership Programme<\/a>, whose contributions not only supported the diverse EMBL events programme, but also funded 140 fellowships for delegates from more than 40 countries who would otherwise have been unable to attend events at Europe\u2019s hub for advanced scientific training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-2686\"><figure class=\"vf-figure  | vf-figure--align vf-figure--align-centered \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" class=\"vf-figure__image\" src=\"http:\/\/news.embl.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/1411_events2.jpg\" alt=\"Poster exhibition during 10th annual annual BioMalPar|EVIMalaR conference.
