{"id":2461,"date":"2014-11-04T10:31:46","date_gmt":"2014-11-04T09:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.embl.de\/?p=2461"},"modified":"2025-02-19T13:36:15","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T12:36:15","slug":"1411_fds2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/events\/1411_fds2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Zombies and crystals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Local activities \u2013 including a mesmerizing <a title=\"Crystal Mob, Universit\u00e9 Grenoble \" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/naXrGHBS2RA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018Crystal mob\u2019 flashmob at Universit\u00e9 Grenoble<\/a> \u2013 culminated in an Open Day held jointly by EMBL Grenoble and the neighbouring Institut de Biologie Structurale on 18 October. More than 150 visitors practised their skills as wannabe bacteriologists or tried their hand at fishing protein crystals under a microscope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was an interesting experience,\u201d says Alice Aubert, a research technician in the Berger Group, who acted as guide for a tour of the labs. \u201cPeople were asking questions and were willing to participate, which created a nice atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-2474\"><figure class=\"vf-figure  | vf-figure--align vf-figure--align-inline-start  \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" class=\"vf-figure__image\" src=\"http:\/\/news.embl.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/1411_fds2014-10.jpg\" alt=\"First workshop: using Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to understand the structure of proteins.
