The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) welcomes Hungary as its newest prospect member state. In a Statement of Intent signed this month, Hungary and EMBL agree to explore possibilities for long-term cooperation, with a view to the country becoming a full member state within three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHungary has a strong tradition of research in the biological sciences,\u201d says Iain Mattaj, EMBL\u2019s Director General. \u201cThe country has a highly-developed life science sector, and we\u2019re pleased to welcome them as a prospect member state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a prospect member state, Hungary will have observer status in EMBL\u2019s governing body \u2013 the EMBL Council. Hungarian scientists will be able to access EMBL\u2019s state-of-the-art facilities and services, and the country\u2019s early career researchers will be eligible for scholarships in EMBL\u2019s highly reputed PhD and Postdoctoral programmes. Additionally, EMBL and Hungary will work together on raising the visibility of EMBL in the country and promoting cooperation between Hungarian and EMBL researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
