{"id":18200,"date":"2020-01-24T15:19:05","date_gmt":"2020-01-24T14:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.embl.de\/?p=18200"},"modified":"2024-03-22T10:56:03","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T09:56:03","slug":"hungarian_minister_visiting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/events\/hungarian_minister_visiting\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungarian Minister visits EMBL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today Prof. Dr.&nbsp;L\u00e1szl\u00f3&nbsp;Palkovics, Hungarian Minister for Innovation and Technology,&nbsp;visited the headquarters of EMBL in Heidelberg.&nbsp;This was a historic visit to EMBL, marking the first time a Hungarian minister has visited the headquarters.&nbsp;During his visit,&nbsp;Palkovics&nbsp;held discussions with EMBL Director General Prof. Dr. Edith Heard. He also met some of EMBL\u2019s Hungarian researchers, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.de\/research\/units\/scb\/barabas\/index.html\">group leader Orsolya Barabas<\/a> and students&nbsp;working at EMBL&nbsp;Heidelberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHungary has a long and proud tradition of scientific advancement. Our membership of EMBL, and its partnership with the Hungarian Centre of Excellence for Molecular Medicine, are key components of our national plans to retain our competitive edge in research,\u201d said L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Palkovics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hungary has a longstanding reputation for outstanding research in the life sciences. The country officially joined EMBL in 2017 as a full member state, after three years as a prospect member. The <a href=\"https:\/\/news.embl.de\/lab-matters\/hcemm-embl-partnership\/\">EMBL-HCEMM inter-institutional partnership<\/a> was created in 2018 to facilitate an ongoing transfer of institutional, research, and collaborative expertise between the two organisations.
